Sneaker resell is not easy. Whether you do it as a side hustle or it’s your full-time gig, it’s a lot of work. 2024 is setting up to be a huge year, though, so we wrote some advice on how to improve your resell game in 2024.
First off, there are some big drops coming, the biggest one being the return of Kobe’s. It goes without saying to get your hands on Kobe’s if you can. They are money machines. Dunks, Jordan 11s, and Jordan 4s are doing well right now, and will continue to do so.
The resale industry is always changing. Nothing ever changes all at one time, but here is what you can expect a shift toward in 2024:
- Collaborations. In the last couple of years, there have been countless successful collaborations: Nike x Travis Scott, New Balance x ALD, etc. Expect these to keep growing, and get the collaboration pairs in your inventory if you can.
- Comfort. The rise of brands like Ugg, Crocs, and Birkenstock signify that there is a lot more focus on comfort. Brands that are not traditionally in the resale space are getting involved, and people are really excited about it.
- Storefronts. We have seen a ton of stores growing and opening new locations. In 2022, 33% of all clothing purchases were new/resold clothing. That number is only growing, and helping lots of stores to grow.
Outside of the direction of resell, though, how can you improve?
Get your inventory organized. So many resellers don’t know what they have. By sitting down and figuring out exactly what your inventory consists of, you can speed up the time it takes to flip each pair.
Shop your consignment around. Percentages don’t tell the whole story. Some stores, depending on what they need, will pay much more for a pair than other stores. You can easily get $10-$20 more per shoe on average if you cast a wide net.
Lastly, and probably most important, be social. People like to do business with their friends, and sometimes friends will throw you deals. Take advantage of that. Be reliable, pleasant to work with, and reasonable. Don’t try and scam other resellers by offering terrible prices. Making friends and having a good reputation will pay huge dividends in the long run.
