Nike has a long history of being the premier sponsorship for NBA players. Currently, Nike has athletes like Lebron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Kevin Durant. Having a Nike deal leaves the player with big shoes to fill (pun intended), and many reports have come out that Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker is up next.
Booker is in his eighth season in the NBA and has quietly become one of the best players in the league, averaging 28/5/6 through most of the 2023 season. This season, he teamed up with Nike-signed superstar Kevin Durant and continues to play with Jordan-signed Chris Paul.
Booker has always been a huge fan of Kobe’s for his in-game sneakers, specifically the Kobe 9 and 10s.
This is likely due to the mentor relationship Booker had with Kobe before his unfortunate passing. Booker has also been seen wearing KD 12s occasionally in-game recently.
Nike has not made any official statement regarding Booker getting a signature shoe yet, but when asked about a signature shoe, Booker responded “We’re cooking things up, so the future’s gonna be exciting.”
As far as what to expect from the “DBook 1’s,” they are expected to be released in Spring of 2024. Because of the impact that Kobe had on Booker on the court and in the sneaker game, we can expect a shoe similar to the Kobe line.
Booker has already had special edition sneakers designed for him, like the Air Force 1 Low Devin Booker and the Kobe 1 Protro Devin Booker.
We are excited to see the DBook 1’s and what they bring to the sneaker game!
